Founded in 2022, the Northern Roots Market Garden is pure paradise for all that love fresh produce.

In 2025 an additional garden was created at 103 Drybones Drive.

In 2022 Northern Roots developed “Transform Your Yard into a Food Garden” mentorship program. We are partnered with the City of Yellowknife, to offer this 9 month mentorship program to community members interested in learning how to be successful in planning, building, and growing a garden that will produce a bountiful harvest. Mentees are actively enhancing their skills to grow develop and grow food gardens as market gardeners and as self-sufficiency gardeners.

Northern Roots works actively with communities of the Northwest Territories to develop and implement growing projects that allow communities to take back control of their food security. Northern Roots provides year around Agriculture Training and Mentorship to communities in the Tlicho, Akaicho and Sahtu Territories. This service is focused on honing the skills in horticulture with a focus on root vegetables and other food plants that grow well in our climate.

Past and/or current collaborators are, Tlicho Government Presence in Whati, Community Government of Gameti, K’alemi Dene School, Mildred Hall School & Intergenerational Community Garden, Yellowknife Women’s Society, CBC North, HomeBase Youth Center, the City of Yellowknife.
